Ethos
Right plant, right place
It makes sense, really. Plants have specific requirements in terms of soil, moisture and light levels - there is no upside to wasting effort and resources on trying to make a plant grow where it doesn't want to. The plant won't be happy and neither will you, when it fails to perform!
Work with nature
I try to follow organic principles as much as possible. There is so much we still don't know about how the natural world functions, it makes sense to me to try to have as little impact on it as I can, to avoid causing unintentional harm.
Sustainability
I try to use sustainable materials and methods wherever possible. I use battery-operated tools instead of petrol-driven ones. If possible I will re-use and re-cycle materials and - provided they are healthy - plants as well. Having a beautiful garden needn't cost the Earth, and re-used items can give a garden its own unique identity.
Respect
Respect for nature, for wildlife, for people - I approach my work and life with respect towards everyone and everything.
